| Presidents' Message February 2007 |
| |
We hope you enjoyed all the events in January as much as we did. From the Cantor's Shalom concert which delighted all who attended, to the Synaplex event on the 27th and the Affair Fair on the 28th, we experienced some varied and fun programming in the middle of winter! Now, as we enter February, our strategic plan implementation is gaining momentum through several key components.
First, a goal to increase our membership to 600 families has been established. To achieve this goal, the membership committee is working on a membership drive and outreach to several of our constituencies including preschool families, seniors, interfaith families and the unaffiliated in the area. Concurrently, the interfaith committee has been very active in driving outreach to interfaith couples and families within the TBI community (as was seen in our January Messenger articles) and in the surrounding area. This effort is critical to our growth as many of the unaffiliated families in our area are interfaith. Communicating with these families and showing them through our actions that we are receptive to interfaith families is strategically crucial to TBI's long term growth and viability. The marketing committee is interacting with all these committees and is working to better understand the demographics and trends that affect our growth and to establish plans to improve how we communicate internally and externally.
A second component of the strategic plan implementation involves the initiation of work on a new capital campaign. This capital campaign is focused on reducing our debt expense, increasing unrestricted endowment funds to support TBI operations annually and strengthening the capital improvement fund to addresses needed facility improvements. Success in this area will improve our financial well being and reduce our reliance on annual fundraising. The TBI Board of Directors approved moving forward with a feasibility study for a capital campaign and a private donor has agreed to fund the study. The committee to head the Capital Campaign is being formed at this time and we hope to have these activities in full swing in early spring.
Additionally the strategic plan calls for increased focus on improving our youth and adult education and programming and working to ensure our spiritual leadership is the best possible. Work in all these areas continues through programs and activities that were initiated last year and earlier this year (i.e., NESS, Synaplex and professional development for our leadership). Additionally, the search for a new cantor is progressing and several candidates are talking with the search committee at the time of this writing.
All in all we have a lot going on at TBI and will continue to keep you abreast of the activities. As always, we welcome your ideas and input.
Susan Butler and Carl Weiner
